Cost Savings and Program Effectiveness

 

Community Corrections in Ohio, a joint release with the national Justice Policy Institute, found that community corrections programs and community-based treatment in Ohio are significantly less costly than imprisonment. According to the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections, total cost for prison is $54.39 per day with an average stay of 7 months and an average total cost of $11,422. By contrast, day reporting, intensive supervision and electronic monitoring can cost no more than $1,600 per person over the course of treatment.
