Policy Matters proposes a budget that works
The budget for the next biennium presents an opportunity to take a balanced approach to the state’s future, according to a budget document released today by Policy Matters Ohio.
“That state has cut funds for many vital services over the past two years,” said Wendy Patton, senior project director at Policy Matters. “We urge legislators to do the right thing and invest in Ohio’s children, workers, infrastructure and communities.”
The Policy Matters report, A budget that works, reviews the impact of the current biennial budget which slashed funding in areas including local government, education, and human services. It concludes with a series of recommendations – including changes to the tax code to raise much-needed revenue – that will position Ohio better for the future.
“Gov. Kasich’s planned release today of his proposal for funding Ohio’s schools is the first step in a long process,” said Patton. “We’ll be watching closely, analyzing, praising the smart solutions and suggesting other ways that the state budget can ensure that Ohio is creating a society that works for everyone.”
