The first State of Working Ohio, written by Amy Hanauer and Mark Cassell before the creation of Policy Matters Ohio, was published by the Northeast Ohio Research Consortium. This in-depth analysis of wage change between 1979 and 1997 found that wage inequality had grown, wages had declined for 80 percent of workers, wages of black men and high school dropouts had declined precipitously, and disturbing race and gender gaps endured for Ohio wages.
As a supplement, the authors also released an analysis of wage differences by location in Ohio. This report examined wage changes and current wages in Ohio's largest metropolitan areas to gain an understanding of how they compare to each other, and how they compare to other parts of the state.
