WEBINAR: Ohio EITC - How a state earned income tax credit would help working families escape poverty

February 28, 2013

Join us at 2pm on Monday, March 4, 2013

Governor Kasich is proposing to shift Ohio’s reliance on income tax to an expanded sales tax.  Sales taxes tend to be more burdensome on low-moderate- income families because they spend more of their earnings on purchases than higher earners.  One way to make the governor’s proposed changes more equitable would be instituting a state earned income tax credit (EITC). Nearly half the states in the U.S. have an EITC which, along with the federal tax credit, helps lift families out of poverty and boost living standards.

This free webinar, offered by Ohio CASH, will feature the analysis of Policy Matters Ohio and The Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy (ITEP) on the impact of a state earned income tax credit in Ohio communities.  It will also discuss opportunities for targeted advocacy.

Ohio CASH stands for Creating Assets, Savings and Hope, and is a project of Policy Matters Ohio. We provide a collaborative hub for asset building, income security, and consumer protection research and outreach. The overall goal of Ohio CASH is to improve the financial and economic conditions for low- and moderate-income families and communities. Only by building assets – helping families save and protect their income – can we end the cycle of poverty.  Learn more about us at www.ohiocash.org
