Our homes should be our safe place, where we know we can keep ourselves and our loved ones free from harm. But throughout Ohio this week, people had to leave their homes to find relief from sweltering heat within. American Electric Power (AEP) chose to shut off electricity for a quarter of a million customers, many in neighborhoods where Black and brown residents and low-income families live, smack in the middle of a severe heat wave. Parts of the state may not have electricity for nearly a week.
